Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday that those who threaten habitual India on the chicken neck corridor should take care that Bangladesh have two ‘chicken necks’, which are weaker than India’s ‘Chicken Neck’ corridor.
Sarma wrote in the X post on Sunday – The first 80 km northern Bangladesh Corridor – from South Dinajpur to South West Garo Hills. Any obstruction here can completely separate the entire Rangpur division from the rest of Bangladesh.
The second is the 28 km Chittagong Corridor, from South Tripura to Bay of Bengal. The corridor, which is smaller than the chicken neck of India, is the only way to connect Bangladesh’s economic capital and political capital. I am just telling the geographical fact, which some people forget.

Yunus told Bangladesh to the guardian of the Bay of Bengal
In fact, two months ago, Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, visited China in March. During this time he said that the North-East states of India, called Seven Sisters, are land locks. They do not have a way to reach the sea. Bangladesh is the only sea guardian in that region. This gives a big opportunity to invest.
Sarma has since been insisting on the need to remove the weakness of the “chicken neck” corridor. In the NITI Aayog meeting on Saturday, the matter of increasing connectivity in the Northeast was also raised.

Bangladesh’s attitude changed after Sheikh Hasina’s coup
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to leave the country after the rebellion in Bangladesh in August 2024. He took refuge in India. The interim government was formed in Bangladesh and Mohammad Yunus became its head. The India-Bangladesh relations were very strong at the time of Sheikh Hasina, but after that the anti-India activities of Bangladesh increased.
Many Bangladeshi leaders made anti -India statements and targeted Hindu leaders living in Bangladesh. Due to this, the tussle of both countries increased further, besides Bangladesh is constantly strengthening its partnership with Pakistan.
