New Delhi. Jyoti Yaraji, who took part in the Hurdle Race for India, admitted that she was under stress to save her title in the 100 meter hurdles, but paying attention to the time instead of the medal helped her to remain calm and she won the second consecutive gold medal in the Asian Athletics Championships on Thursday.
Andhra Pradesh’s 25 -year -old player winner Jyoti completed the race in 12.96 seconds. Which is a new record of competition. After 27 years, Jyoti has created history. The previous record was of 13.04 seconds, which was built by Olga Shishigina of Kazakhstan in 1998 and Sun Yavei of China in 2011.
Jyoti, the Silver Medal winner of the Asian Games, joined the selected club of five athletes defending the gold medal in the 100m hurdles of the Asian Championship. Prior to that, this achievement was achieved by Japan’s Amy Akimoto (1979, 1981, 1983) and three players from China Zhang U (1991, 1993), Sur Yinping (2003, 2005) and Sun Yavei (2009, 2011).
Jyoti later said, “My goal was to win the gold medal, but I focused on timing because when you focus too much on the medal, you feel pressure. So I turned it into a positive side thinking about time and it really came to work. ”Jyoti won the gold medal with an effort of 13.09 seconds in the Asian Championship in 2023. His personal best time is 12.78 seconds, which is also a national record.
