Asian Atheletics Championship: Gulveer Singh won the second gold medal, Pooja also won gold

New Delhi. Gulveer Singh broke a decade -old meat record in the final of the men’s 5000 meter event on Friday and won his second gold medal in the Asian Athletics Championships and registered his name among the great players of India in the long distance race. National record holder Ghulaveer took a time of 13 minutes 24.77 seconds and left behind Thailand’s Keran Tuntivate who finished second with 13 minutes 24.97 seconds. Nagia Mori of Japan won a bronze medal with 13 minutes 25.06 seconds.

The previous championship record was named after Mohammad Al-Garden of Qatar. Al-Garden took a time of 13 minutes 34.47 in the 2015 season. With this victory, the Indian player won his second gold medal in the current championship. He had earlier won a gold medal with a time of 28 minutes 38.63 seconds in the 10,000 meter event on the early day of the competition.

Pooja gave India a great success with a gold medal in the high jump. This 18 -year -old player defeated Safina Sadullaeva (1.86 m) of Uzbekistan with a jump of 1.89 meters in the first attempt from his final. The father of this Haryana player is a laborer. Pooja had earlier won a bronze medal in the Asian Under-23 Championships in 2023.

Gulveer joined the alit group of Indian players who won gold in the men’s 5000 meter event in the continental competition with this performance. Earlier, Gopal Saini (1981), Bahadur Prasad (1993), and G Lakshmanan (2017) have won gold medals in this event. A 26 -year -old Atrauli in Uttar Pradesh also won a bronze medal in the 2023 season.
