Indian hockey team coach Craig Fulton says that after winning the Asia Cup, their team will go to the World Cup ticket. Hockey Asia Cup is going to be held in Rajgir, Bihar.
India hockey team coach Craig Fulton filled the shutdown. India will start its campaign in the Asia Cup against China on Friday. On the eve of the match, Fulton said, ‘This is the most important tournament of the year and so we will give everything to win it. We want to move forward in the tournament. The reward is also big direct qualification and this is what we want. The Indian coach said, ‘If we qualify from here, then we will have a year’s program. We have not won any tournament for a long time and our goal is to become number one in Asia. We will leave no stone unturned on our behalf in the next 10 days.
India last won the Asia Cup eight years ago in Dhaka in 2017 and last time it finished third. Fulton said that he has worked on the areas that he had recognized during the European phase of the Pro League. He said, ‘We had some very close matches in the Pro League, but the results were not in our favor. We were playing well, we could not do well in the fourth quarter. We made opportunities, but could not score too much. We have practiced well now.
Fulton, who hails from South Africa, said that due to being at stake in the World Cup, he preferred experience instead of inclusion of new players in the team. He said, ‘We had 24 players during the tour of Australia. Some young players came to the team, so they needed matches. Therefore, young players were given a chance in the first two matches and selected for the Asia Cup in the third and fourth matches. It was competitive. In my opinion, it will not be wise to remove young players in the qualifying tournament.
