New Delhi. A new case has come up in the midst of a ruckus on behalf of the ongoing Asia Cup to be held this year. The news is coming out that perhaps Pakistan’s team is going to withdraw the name from the tournament to be held in India. The 2025 Asia Cup edition will be held in September. All the matches will be played in T20 format. Last year, there was a lot of ruckus at the BCCI’s Indian team not sent to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
What is so in the Asia Cup poster?
The current champions India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are five full time members of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). All the teams have qualified for the tournament on their own according to the priority. There are reports that Pakistan may withdraw from the 2025 Asia Cup. This came to light when Sony Sports, the broadcaster of the Asia Cup 2025, shared a poster on Tuesday. In this, the picture of Pakistan’s T20 captain Salman Ali Aga was missing. Since this picture surfaced, there was further speculation about his withdrawal from the tournament.
India were given the rights to host the 2025 Asia Cup last year, but the tournament of this year will be held in the UAE or Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka also co-condemned the 2023 Asia Cup, where India won the title by defeating him by 10 wickets in the final. Due to political tension, India and Pakistan do not play bilateral series and are only in ICC or Asia Cup events. After the Pulwama attack in April 2025, relations between the two countries have deteriorated.
