He congratulated the new BJP state president Nayanar Nagendran and wrote- Nayanar’s political experience and commitment will strengthen the party in Tamil Nadu.
Earlier, BJP leader and former Governor Tamilisai Sundararajan also described the DMK government as anti -people and said that the last chapter of DMK government has started. The NDA will win in 2026. He gave former DMK Minister K.K. Ponmudi also targeted the anti -female statement and said that apology is not enough, they should be dismissed from the government.
Home Minister Amit Shah announced the alliance of BJP and AIADMK in Chennai on Friday (April 2). He said that in 2026, the Tamil Nadu assembly elections will be fought under the leadership of AIADMK chief E Palaniswami. The seat -sharing will be decided after discussion later.

Shah said- AIADMK joining NDA beneficial for both
Shah said that there is no demand for AIADMK regarding the alliance, nor will the BJP interfere in their internal matters. The party’s joining the NDA is very beneficial for both. Shah said- Next election DMK government will be fought on corruption, Dalits, atrocities on women. People are seeking answers from DMK on scams, people will vote on these issues in the elections.
In September 2023, the then Tamil Nadu chief Annamalai was separated from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) NDA due to some comments made.
234 seats in Tamil Nadu, Shah said- will also be CMP if needed
In response to a question in the press conference, Shah said that AIADMK has different stance on some issues. But we will sit and discuss this, if needed, there will also be a minimum shared program (Common Minimum Program, CMP).
Annamalai State President back back from election, Nayanar will be next president
Here, the name of the state president of the party also came up on Friday. BJP MLA Nayanar Nagendran from Tirunelveli will be the next state president of BJP. Nagendran has previously lived in AIADMK, which is likely to strengthen the alliance.
Nagendran’s name has not been officially announced. But according to an X post by Shah, Nayanar’s name was proposed by the current state president K Annamalai.

AIADMK-BJP alliance got only 75 seats in the last election AIADMK ruled in Tamil Nadu till two consecutive terms (2011-2021). In the last assembly elections held in 2021, DMK won 159 out of the total 234 seats in the state. At the same time, AIADMK was reduced to just 66 seats. The BJP got 2 and other parties got 7 seats.
After DMK’s victory, MK Stalin became the Chief Minister of the state. On the other hand, AIADMK and BJP alliance broke on September 25, 2023 due to some comments by state BJP president Annamalai.

Not a single seat was received in the Lok Sabha elections BJP and AIADMK contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in separate alliance, but DMK also won that election. It was considered a shock for AIADMK and BJP. Tamil Nadu has a total of 39 Lok Sabha seats.
The India alliance, led by the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), has won all seats. DMK has won 22, Congress 9, CPI, M) and VCK 2-2 and MDMK and IUML have won one seat each.
Congress has also won one seat of neighboring union territory Puducherry. AIADMK and BJP -led NDA could not even open an account.
Why AIADMK and BJP separated
AIADMK (AIADMK) announced to leave the NDA on 25 September 2023, ending its relationship with BJP. The main reason for this was the invasive style of Tamil Nadu BJP chief’s Annamalai politics. Annamalai commented on Dravidian veteran CN Annadurai.
On 11 September 2023, Annamalai, the Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Entry, P.K. CN in a program organized in protest against Shekhar Babu’s statement against Sanatan Dharma. A statement was also made against Annadurai. He had said that ‘Annadurai had made critical remarks against Hindu faith at an event in Madurai in the 1950s, which was strongly opposed by freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthumarling Thevar.
Immediately after Annamalai’s statement, the Annadramuk leader united against the BJP state president. AIADMK asked Annamalai to apologize to Annamalai to comment on Annadurai but he did not do so.
On this, AIADMK asked the BJP leadership to remove Annamalai from the post of BJP state president of the party but the BJP high command did not do so. Due to this, AIADMK separated.
