Ravi Kumar (name changed) of 45 -year -old Ravi Kumar of Siwan district was troubled by the problem of facial swelling and eyesight blurry for the last few months. By the time the problem increased, the family reached him with IGIMS of Patna.

Doctors shocked in investigation

The doctors were surprised during the preliminary investigation. In the report, he saw that a tooth was stuck in the bone just below the patient’s eye. Its roots had reached the inside of the orbit. This condition is considered very rare and doctors named it tooth in the eye. The patient was admitted under the supervision of Dr. Nimmi Singh, Chairman of Oral Medicine and Radiology Department of Dental Department. Realizing the seriousness of the case, he formed a special surgical team, including Dr. Priyankar Singh of the Maxilofacial Unit and experts from the Department of Anesthesia.

Information about location received from advance scanning

Advance CBCT scanning of the patient was done before the surgery. This revealed the exact condition of the tooth and the depth of its roots. This high-tech investigation made it clear that the teeth are stuck in the orbital floor and it will be very difficult to remove it. The doctors started the operation carefully and successfully drove the tooth out without damaging the eye in this surgery which lasted for several hours. After the operation, the patient’s eyesight survived and the facial swelling also ended.

Extremely rare case

Dr. Nimmi Singh said that the matter was very rare. Usually teeth develop inside the mouth, but this patient’s teeth developed under the eye. With the help of advance investigation and surgical technology, we were successful in removing it. After this successful surgery, IGIMS Director Dr. Binde Kumar, Deputy Director Dr. Vibhuti Prasanna Sinha and Medical Superintendent Dr. Manish Mandal congratulated the entire team and described it as a major achievement of the institute.
