Why did Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on 12 June? Nine national and international agencies have started investigation to find an answer to this question. In this investigation, a teenager’s 19 -second video made from the roof can play an important role.

We retired from the Indian Air Force as Group Captain from the Indian Air Force and talked to Mohit Chaturvedi, who flew aircraft for VVIP.

He saw a strange thing in the video 3 seconds before the plane crash. This was the exit of RAM air turbine (RAT) of the aircraft. According to him, it indicates the theory of failing all the engines of the aircraft.

According to Group Captain Mohit Chaturvedi, crash landing occurs only when all the systems of the aircraft have failed.

He said that a commercial aircraft contain two electric generators for power, called Integrated Drive Generator (IDG). The third generator is placed in the oxylary power unit (APU) on the aircraft tail. If the main two generators are damaged, the APU generator starts. Even if any of these three generators are operational, the flight can get complete electricity.

The RAT system is planted slightly back of the aircraft's landing gear.

The RAT system is planted slightly back of the aircraft’s landing gear.

But what will happen if the three generators get spoiled?

According to the group Captain Mohit Chaturvedi, there is a possibility of survival even in such a situation because even if these three main generators fail, every engine has a backup generator. These backup generators give AC (Alternane current) power to the aircraft system, which keeps the engines running.

The aircraft has a computer -based electrical load management system (ELMS) for all types of power management, which determines which generator to start at what time, but if unfortunately three main generators and two backup generators are closed, then two permanent magnetic generators (PMG) of the entire load aircraft will come on, which will make the hostility with the speed of the wheels, whose work wheels will come on the hostels. Is.

Last option RAM Air Turbine (RAT)

According to Group Captain Mohit Chaturvedi, if the PMG power also fails, then the last option for power is RAM Air Turbine (RAT). The RAT system is planted slightly back of the aircraft’s landing gear.

In simple words, it is a wind generator. If all the systems fail, then in this situation the RAT comes out on its own. RAT creates power by moving in the air and leads it to the system, but if for some reason the RAT system also fails, there is no option to save the aircraft from crashing.

What did you note in viral video? Retired group Captain Mohit Chaturvedi said, RAT is seen outward in the video of the aircraft crashed in Ahmedabad, which means that all generators failed during the take off. However, after the investigation, the flight data will be known only from the data of the recorder.

He said I think the pilot made a medium call. It may be that he has called a loss of thrust in panic. He did not get time to say other things. If AC power is not found, the front panel will fly in a second. If nothing is seen in front, then you will not be able to control.

What changes did Boeing make in the aircraft

Mohit Chaturvedi told about the design of the Boeing aircraft that 707, 717, 727, 737, 747, 757, 767 and 777 aircraft requires hydraulic power up to 3,000 PSI to lift the landing gear, but the Crashing Boeing 787 in Ahmedabad requires the electrole Have tried to make hydraulic pressure by changing it.

According to the new design, hydrolics-powered systems get power from the electrical central system, ie landing gear system up and down system, nose-wheel steering, flight control, are all connected, so if the landing gear does not go up, the direct reason is the total AC power loss.

He pointed to an important point, saying, perhaps APU and two generators in the aircraft were already closed. Because of this, the landing gear could not be raised and hence control could not be achieved. It seems that the aircraft went slightly to the left.

He said that the two pilots usually calculate the take-off performance before receiving the command from ATC. How many runways will be required for take-off, as well as humidity, temperature and weight? How much speed will the aircraft need for the lift, etc.

Did the pilot make a mistake in filling the details manually? Some detail pilots have to manually fill in the aircraft system. Did the pilot fill the wrong details? Mohit Chaturvedi said that it is not possible that the pilot has disturbed the configuration. This cannot be. Suppose if the flap is not opened for the take-off, the configuration warning will start. In such a situation, if the details are wrong then the computer will not accept it.

Did anyone close the fuel valve from outside? There is also a discussion that the aircraft may not have received the necessary fuel. Some would have closed the valve from outside, so the aircraft crashed in 35-40 seconds. When Mohit Chaturvedi was asked about this, he said, this argument is nonsense. The fuel tank of the aircraft occurs in the middle lower back, but its switch is in the cockpit, which the pilot can operate.

If this aircraft is not filled with fuel from Delhi, then fuel would have been filled in Ahmedabad with about 6 boots. According to the DGCA rules, all the Bovers are seized until the investigation is done.

Even if an engine fails, the Boeing Plane can fly for 45 minutes

An engine of the 787 aircraft of Boeing gives a 53 thousand pounds thrust. Even if one of the two engine also fails, it can fly for 45 minutes after the take-off. The aircraft of this series have crossed the Atlantic Ocean, so it is not that if an engine stops after the take-off it will fall. These are all class A certified aircraft. Perhaps if an engine had stopped in Ahmedabad, it could have landed in Mumbai, Rajkot, Bhopal, but in this case the landing gear was down.

Pilot and co-pilot role during aircraft take-off Mohit Chaturvedi said, “When the aircraft is going up from 12 to 15 degrees during the take-off, the pilot can only see the sky. Its job is to keep the aircraft balanced. At this time the co-pilot work has to be seen whether the aircraft is safe from the ground or not. It gives a ‘safe airborne indicator’. In the indicator (VVI), the position of the aircraft can be seen and the height can see increasing.

He then describes the pilot as a ‘positive climb rate’. This means that the aircraft is going up. The Captain then orders him to gear up.

Most aircraft accidents during landing or take-off We also talked to Captain Chandraprakash Dwivedi of the Indian Air Force Retired about the plane crash. He explained his experiences on the principle of engine failure and accidents during the take-off. He has flew seven different types of aircraft during his career. He has a flight experience over 3,000 hours.

Chandraprakash Dwivedi said that most aircraft accidents occur during landing or tech-off, also reduce accidents during take-offs. There have been only seven accidents where both engines failed.

In 2009, both engines failed during the take-off in New York. At that time the aircraft was launched into the Hudson River, so all the people on the aircraft survived. Therefore, the place where the plane crashes is also important. “Dwivedi said,” It seems that there was a technical flaw in the plane crash in Ahmedabad. The failure of the two engines together is ‘almost impossible’. No such case has been reported in India yet, although only the investigation team can tell the real reason. “
