AIIMS Urge Warning Label on Wine: A team of big doctors of AIIMS has said that there is a sure proof that alcohol contains cancer elements, so the bottle of alcohol should be immediately labeled.

Highlights
- The doctor of AIIMS advised to put a carcinic label on liquor bottles.
- It is certified that alcohol consumption increases the risk of 7 different types of cancer.
- A warning label is necessary to reduce alcohol addiction in adolescents. This will not cause addiction.
Warning will reduce alcohol addiction among teenagers
In a report published in Frontiers in Public Health, AIIMS doctors have said that alcohol like tobacco is also a proven carcinogenic substance but its awareness is still very low. The report prepared by Dr. Abhishek Shankar, Dr. Vaibhav Sahni and Dr. Deepak Saini, oncologist of the AIIMS Department of Radiation Oncology, states that adolescence is an important period when drug habits are affected. At this time, the intensity of addiction of something is very high. This is the reason that if the teenager gets used to alcohol in age, then it becomes difficult to miss it. Researchers said that if a warning label is put on liquor bottles, it can prove to be an effective practical intervention. Because at this age, children will reduce the courage to drink alcohol after seeing this warning. It is especially needed more in underdeveloped and developing countries. In these countries, it is very important to make some sections of society educated and sensitive to the ill effects of intoxication.
Cancer rapidly spreading disease
Doctors said that there has been a sharp increase in cancer cases in India. The data from 2012 to 2022 periods show that it has increased by 36 percent. That is, the number of cases has increased from 10.1 lakh to 13.8 lakhs. According to Globocan 2022 data, India had about 14.1 lakh new cancer cases and the total number of cases was around 32.5 lakh in a period of five years. At the same time, 9.17 lakh people died due to cancer. According to Globocan 2020 data, alcohol in India is responsible for 4.7 percent of cases of cancer. That is, this rate is 4.8 per one lakh population. According to 2016 data, 6.6 percent of the deaths caused by all types of diseases in India were due to alcohol consumption. At the same time, 10.9 percent deaths were due to tobacco. Researchers also mentioned the advice on the risk of alcohol consumption and cancer by the Surgeon General of America in January 2025. It said that alcohol intake clearly increases the risk of development of at least seven types of cancer (colon or rectum, liver, breast, isophagus, larynks, ferrinks and mouth cavity). This advice also mentions the biological causes between the development of alcohol consumption and cancer, as well as the fact that this effect is equally on both men and women. Researchers also said that even before this advice is released, cancer disease caused by alcohol is a global burden.
