The BJP will not form a new government in Manipur, which is struggling with ethnic violence. The priority of the Modi government is currently to coordinate between Maetai and Cookie-Communities which have been released in the state for two years.

According to BJP sources, there is no possibility of removing President’s rule in Manipur until the reconciliation between the two communities. Earlier, till June 15, the formation of the BJP government in the state was being claimed again.

On April 30, 21 MLAs sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding an immediate popular government in the state. 14 BJP MLAs signed the letter.

Actually, President’s rule is in force in Manipur since February, when the then Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned. At the same time, a conflict between the Kuki-Metai community started in the state on 3 May 2023, which continues till now. More than 300 people have died during this period.

Biren Singh said- Center wants a popular government at Manipur

On the other hand, former CM Biren Singh said on Wednesday after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi that the central government wants to establish a popular government in Manipur. The people of the state also want the same.

Biren Singh said that he and Rajya Sabha MP Leisamba Sanazoba met Amit Shah on 9 and 10 June. Home Minister Amit Shah assured him that the central government also wants the same and after reviewing the situation, a decision will be taken in this direction.

On May 30, the new government agreed with BJP

For the last 20 days, the exercise to form a new government in Manipur had intensified. 27 BJP MLAs held a meeting on 30 May. It also agreed to form a new government. Before the meeting, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Speaker Satyavrat Singh were kept away.

The meeting was attended by BJP MLAs who revolted against Biren Singh as well as MLAs who supported him from the post of CM on 9 February. An MLA said that Biren Singh was not called.

After the meeting, the MLAs have issued a statement saying that it has been resolved to keep personal ambitions separate to work towards the formation of the government. The Manipur Assembly has 60 members. Among them, BJP has 37 MLAs. Seven of these cookie-from the community who did not attend the meeting.

BJP has more MLAs than majority

The 60 -seat Manipur Assembly currently has 59 MLAs. One seat is vacant due to the death of the MLA. BJP’s alliance has a total of 44 MLAs in NDA. These include 32 Maetai, three Manipuri Muslims and nine Naga MLAs.

At the same time, all five MLAs of Congress are Maetai. The remaining 10 MLAs are cookie, out of which seven were won on a BJP ticket in 2022 elections. The two cookies belong to the People’s Alliance and have an independent.

On 9 February, the then CM N Biren Singh, who led the BJP government, resigned. After this, President’s rule was implemented on 13 February by suspending the state assembly. There was a lot of pressure on Biren Singh for not stopping the violence in the state for more than one and a half years.

Violence has been taking place between Kuki-Metai in Manipur since May 3, 2023. More than 300 people have died in these two years. More than 1500 were injured. More than 70 thousand people are displaced. More than 6 thousand FIRs have been registered. Opposition parties were constantly asking NDA questions on the issue of violence.

Rahul had said- PM should go to Manipur immediately

After the resignation of N Biren Singh, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had said that despite violence, loss of life and property, PM Narendra Modi retained N Biren Singh, but now N Biren Singh was forced to resign due to increasing pressure from the people, investigation of the Supreme Court and Congress’s no-confidence motion.

In the X post, he said that the most important thing at this time is that peace should be restored in the state and the work of healing the wounds of the people of Manipur. PM Modi should immediately go to Manipur, listen to the people there and tell what they are planning to normalize the situation.
