Stavenger (Norway): The five -time world champion 34 -year -old Magnus Carlson and half of him, and Gukesh, had a first round of the Norway Chess tournament. In this match, Carlson, while presenting a brilliant sample of his expertise in the final moments, defeated Gukesh and scored a full three points.
Gukesh kept the last champion of Norway under pressure in this match of classical chess for more than four hours, but after that the Indian player made a mistake, taking advantage of which Karlson won 55 moves.
Karlson earned three points from this victory and is a joint lead with American Grandmaster and world number two Hikaru Nakamura. Nakamura defeated compatriot Fabiano Karuana.
Arjun Arigasi, the second Indian player participating in the competition, defeated China’s number one player Wei Yi in the Armagadon game. Earlier, the classical bet was spent on equal in 54 tricks.
Arigasi scored 1.5 points from the win, while Wei scored one point. In the scoring system of the tournament, the winner gets three points in the classical format.
If the classical bet is drawn, the players get one point each and then have to play for half a digit in Armagadon. Arigasi will compete with Gukesh in the second round.
Meanwhile, two -time world rapid champion Koneru Hampi registered a decisive victory against Ham Watan Indian player R Vaishali. This match was moving forward easily, but in the end Vaishali made a mistake, taking advantage of which Hampi won.
Carlson and Gukesh’s match lasted for decisive moments, in which the Norway player won with white pieces and finally won by pressing his opponent. Carlson’s introduction, however, did not lose as expected and he later accepted it.
In fact, Gukesh, playing with black pieces, neutralized the lead of his rival’s white pieces until the 11th move, when he forced the Norway player to think for more than 15 minutes.
But now 34 -year -old Carlson, who started playing in small formats like rapid and blitz and recently in freestyle chess, won 55 tricks and showed that he had not lost his contact with classical format. In this tournament, the top six players in the open and women’s category have been in part.
