New Delhi. American Grandmaster and World No. 2 Hikaru Nakamura believes that it is very important to have a strong personality in the western world to promote “boring” chess. They are impressed by how Indian fans have adopted their stars like D Gukesh and R Pragyanand. During the conversation during the Norway Chess, Nakamura said, “This (chess) is a very boring game for most people. So the only way to move beyond this is to find a way to show your personality, to motivate fans to cheer for some players. Especially in India, you see it when you have Gukesh, or Arigasi (Aurigasi) as if you have a world.
37 -year -old Nakamura won her GM title at the age of 15, who became the youngest American to do so at that time. He is one of the world’s best rapid and blitz players and has won the Norway Chess in 2023. Nakamura will once again compete for the prestigious title in the double round-robin tournament of six players here. The American said that the roads for the development of chess in India are far away, because the Indian world comes here to see players like Champions Gukesh and Pragyanand.
He further said, “Indians come and they all look at it. And, therefore, I think it is more about personality and players and which country they represent. Therefore, if you can bring the general public or fans of the countries behind the players, then the sky is the limit in terms of possibilities,” Nakamura said, which included many chess Olympiads, which included a consecutive part of the UsA team.
