Pyaar at first glance: Divya met Govinda while filming ‘Shola and Shabnam’ with Sajid Nadiadwala. Sajid came on the set to meet actor Govinda, but he caught sight of Divya. According to reports, it was a love for Sajid at first sight. Over time, their friendship became stronger and soon turned into love.
And on 10 May 1992, they got married in a private ceremony. At that time Divya was only 18 years old. But despite this big step in his life, he decided to hide the marriage, especially from his father Om Prakash Bharti but the actress’s mother knew about this. The actress had also confessed to Inlam Dharma and named her SANAH to marry a Muslim film maker. The actress’s father was Punjabi and mother was Maharashtrian.
In the last interview given to Bollywood Hungama, Divya’s mother Mita Bharti told how her daughter had hidden her marriage for months. Sajid used to come to meet Govinda on the sets of Shola and Shabnam and was introduced to Divya. On the same day, she asked me, ‘Mother, what do you think about Sajid?’ I said that I like that. After a few days, she asked me if she could marry Sajid. I told him that he should ask his father. And his father was against it.
Divya Bharti’s father had her own views about Sajid, and she opposed this idea. When Divya is 18 years old, one day Divya called her mother and told her that she is marrying Sajid on the same day, and wants her to sign as one of the witnesses. But the actress’s mother told her that she will not be able to come until she tells her father about it. Despite her mother’s warning, Divya got married. But instead of living with Sajid, she lived with her parents, sometimes she met her husband. His father had no information about his secret wedding.
Big disclosure a few months later: During the festival of Diwali, Sajid went to Divya’s family’s house and told her father the truth. His mother further said, ‘A few months later, Sajid came to meet us during Diwali. His father and Sajid were talking when Sajid told him that he and Divya had married. His father did not say even a word. They kept quiet.
Divya’s mother further explains, ‘After Sajid’s departure, she (Divya’s father) asked me why I did not tell her. I said that I told Divya to tell them themselves. Then he did not say anything for two days. On the third day, he told me, ‘Let’s call Sajid home. I want to talk to her. Since they have got married, we should accept it and move forward.
At first, despite being upset, Divya’s father finally accepted her marriage. Sadly, this couple did not get a chance to live Happy Moments for a long time. After less than a year of marriage of both of them, on 5 April 1993, Divya Bharti fell from the balcony of her apartment and she was just 19 years old.
Even though he was very short, but Sajid was close to Divya’s family, according to the report of Bollywood Hungama, he considered Divya’s parents as his parents since marriage. Even after he left, he continued to take care of him and played all the responsibilities of a son. Divya’s parents, Om Prakash Bharti and Mita Bharti, remained a part of Sajid’s life. Many years after Divya left, he stayed with her and took care of her. In 2000, Sajid married journalist Varda Khan.
