New Delhi : In 1998, the film ‘Bade Mian Chhoti Mian’, directed by David Dhawan, achieved a special place in Indian cinema. The film was not only a box office hit, but its dialogues, songs and actors also made a deep impression in the hearts of the people. Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda appeared on screen together for the first time and the jugalbandi of both gave the film a different identity. Especially the title song of the film ‘Bade Mian To Bade Mian, Chhoti Mian Subhan Allah’ still forces people to dance. But very few people know that Govinda was not ready to do this film earlier.
Many years after the release of the film, Govinda shared a very emotional story related to this film in a TV interview. In ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, when he was asked why he did not hesitate to work with such a great artist Amitabh Bachchan, he remembered the difficult times of his personal life. Govinda said that between 1993 and 1994, there were many tragic incidents in his family. The death of close relatives had broken him mentally and at that time he was not ready to work in any film. When director David Dhawan narrated him the script of ‘Bade Mian Chhoti Mian’, he refused to do it immediately. He said that he was completely empty from inside and he wanted some time to handle himself.
When Amitabh Bachchan arrives to convince Govinda
Govinda said that even after David Dhawan’s refusal, the producer-director of this film did not give up and then one day megastar Amitabh Bachchan himself reached his house. Govinda was surprised to see that such big actors have come to his house and are urging him to work in the film Personally. Govinda recalled the meeting and said that he folded his hands in front of Amitabh ji and said that he could not do a film in this condition. He also said that his personal life was going through a very bad phase and he did not trust himself that he would be able to stay in shooting.
Govinda’s concern about punctuality
Govinda shared another interesting thing that he clearly told Bachchan Saheb that he does not consider himself suitable for this film because he is not punctuals of time, while Amitabh Bachchan is considered very restricted of time. Played character without reading script, rehearsal
Govinda took the decision to do this film, but his way was completely different. He told that he neither read the script nor rehearsed any scene. They used to reach the set at 4 in the morning and acting immediately based on the script given by the director. There was only one thing in his mind- Amitabh Bachchan should not have any inconvenience because of me. It was a symbol of his respect and dedication that he played the shooting of the film with full discipline even in such a difficult mental state.
