Payal, who was the captain of the Mandal handball team, was once completely broken by the death of his only brother. But she did not give up and has played the national seven times till now. Won gold medal at All India University Games in 2019 and has been captaining the Mandal team continuously since 2017. Currently she is also playing the role of referee in various competitions, so that she can provide financial assistance to her family.

Ashok Kumar, a resident of new village in Bahraich, is an auto driver. His wife Anita Devi and four daughters – Komal, Kajal, Payal and Smell. Payal and Mehak are making their future in the game. Payal says that in 2010 she studied at Baldev Singh Inter College and played basketball. One day when his team reached Sonakpur Stadium, he saw the players playing handball for the first time and then the interest in this game increased.

Six years of hard work and many national tournaments
After starting the handball from Sonakpur Stadium in 2010, Payal worked for six consecutive years and participated in many national competitions….

Mandal team commanded since 2017
Payal was handed over the captaincy of the Mandal team in 2017. Since then, she has led the team in many state level competitions. Due to no handball coach in the stadium, Payal themselves train new players and are playing an important role in advancing the team.

Brother’s death broke, but Payal stood again in 2023
Payal was playing junior national in Kanpur in 2021, when his only brother Nikhil died on 14 April. This shock was very large for Payal, and she broke completely. But in 2023, he gathered courage and returned to the field again.

Today Payal is not only playing herself, but is also playing the role of referee in handball competitions, so that he can support his family financially. His story is an inspiration for every player who instead of losing from struggles, has the spirit of turning him into victory.
