The court is hearing the petition of MC Mehta filed in 1985. The petition has demanded instructions to prevent air pollution in Delhi and its surrounding areas.

The Supreme Court on Thursday extended the ban on making, storing and selling firecrackers in Delhi-NCR for a year. A bench of Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan said- the level of air pollution has been dangerous for a long time.

A large part of the population works on the roads and is the most affected by pollution. The bench said that not everyone can install air purifiers in their home or office. Until the court is satisfied that there is very little pollution from green firecrackers, there is no question of rethinking the previous orders.

During the hearing, privately presented engineer Mukesh Singh said that the decision to ban firecrackers is not good. Fireworks clean the environment. He argued that the ban on firecrackers is part of the international conspiracy.

The Supreme Court on December 12, 2024 directed to ban firecrackers for a year in Delhi-NCR for a year. The court is hearing the petition filed by environmentalist MC Mehta in 1985. The petition has demanded instructions to prevent pollution in Delhi and its surrounding areas.

Court left the engineer by warning During the hearing, engineers named Mukesh Singh appeared in private form. He sought permission to speak on the matter. On getting permission from the court, he opposed the ban on firecrackers.

On this, Justice Oka asked if you are an expert. Mukesh replied- Yes, I am an engineer studying from IIT. Mukesh also made serious allegations against MC Mehta. He said- Mehta take funds from anti-national institutions and they belong to Naxalites.

On this, the court reprimanded that this person does not know who MC Mehta is and how much he has done for the environment. We can impose a fine on Mukesh Jain, but this time they are leaving by warning.

SC had said- will give strict orders because the government is not worried The Supreme Court, while hearing the case in January, directed Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to impose full and permanent restrictions on firecrackers in NCR areas. The Additional Solicitor General, appearing for the UP government, had said that the state has banned the court order by banning all types of firecrackers.

To this, Justice Oka said that the court had directed to consider a permanent ban, not a temporary ban but like Delhi. The court said that the court’s last direction to ban firecrackers will remain in force till March 24, the next hearing of the case.
