ISSF World Cup: Shooter Isha Singh ended the drought of India’s medals by winning gold in the 10 meter air pistol event. India has reached number five in the point table of ISSF World Cup.

New Delhi. Olympian and current mixed team pistol world champion Isha Singh ended the drought of India’s medals by winning the gold medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event in the ISSF World Cup Rifle/pistol. 20 -year -old Isha defeated local player Yao Kianxun by 0.1 points in an exciting final at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Center in China by 0.1 points. The current Olympic champion of South Korea Oh Yajin won a bronze medal.

This is Isha’s first World Cup gold medal in this event and it helped India reach fifth position in the medal table. Four more countries with India are jointly fifth in the table with a gold medal. Host China topped the medal table with two gold, four silver and one bronze. India has fielded shooters from fourth to sixth order in every event in this tournament.

After winning the gold medal, Isha said, ‘I am very happy because this was the first competition that I started and won the World Cup gold medal in it.’ Asked about further challenges, he said, “Yes, obviously the next biggest competition of this year is World Championship. We are practicing very hard for this and I am sure that you will get to see very good things from the Indian team in Cairo.”

Isha and her partner Rhythm Sangwan qualified for the final with a similar score of 578, giving them the last two available places. Yao topped the qualification with a score of 584, while India’s Palak Gulia, who was competing for the ranking points only, scored 586. Surabhi Rao finished 25th with a score of 568. Rhythm started well in the final of eight shooters and after the first series she was the top while Isha was in second place.

As the elimination proceeds, both Indians hit good targets with patience. Rhyam reached fourth place with a score of 10.8 on her 15th target but after the 18th target was out of the match. Isha in the meantime maintained her rhythm and kept two shots of 10.7 in the decisive stages and maintained a slight lead on Yao. He won the gold medal with a final score of 242.6, which was only 0.1 points more than the Chinese shooter. In other results, Bhavesh Shekhawat stood 22nd in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol, while Pradeep Singh Shekhawat finished 23rd. Mandeep Singh finished 39th.
