Opener Jose Butler made history by scoring 83 runs in 30 balls in the second T20 match of the 3 -match series against South Africa at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. Butler shared a 126 -run partnership with Phil Salt, who scored a century in 39 balls.

This is the highest run of a batsman made in powerplay in any T20 International match against South Africa. He has become the first player to score 65 or more runs in the first six overs of the T20 International match against South Africa. He broke the record made in 2023 by Jonathan Charles of West Indies.

Head achieved this feat against Scotland in 2024, while Sterling and Munro achieved this feat against West Indies in 2020 and 2018 respectively.

Butler scored runs at a strike rate of 276.66 during this period, which is the fastest innings of more than 80 runs by any opener against any full member team. He broke the record made by Rohit Sharma against Sri Lanka in 2017. He is also the first player to score more than 80 runs against South Africa at a scoring rate of over 260 (in any batting order). Which broke the records made by Charles for the West Indies in 2023 (118 out of 46 out of 46) for the West Indies. Overall, the fast innings from Butler in T20 International cricket has been played only twice against a Test playing team in history.
