Hanuma Vihari will now play for Tripura, left Andhra Pradesh

New Delhi. Hanuma Vihari, who has made his special identity by playing a militant innings against Australia, has decided to leave his home team Andhra Pradesh. Hanuma Vihari will be seen leaving Andhra Pradesh in the domestic season of 2025-26 and will be seen playing for Tripura. Vihari has tied up with the team as one of the three professional players of Tripura. He has joined the team on a year’s contract which can be extended by mutual consent.

Hanuma Vihari said that he has taken this step due to the desire to play in all three formats of the game. After the Ranji season of 2023-24, there was no possibility of getting such an opportunity in Andhra after a public dispute with the State Cricket Association. 31 -year -old Hanuma Vihari told ‘Cricinfo’, ‘I wanted more opportunities because I believe I am good enough to play in all three formats.’

Hanuma Vihari said, ‘Andhra had made it clear that he is considering the youth for T20 format. So I decided that it is not appropriate to play even in the 50 -over format and I was also out of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. I also wanted to play in a new environment. Vihari, who played Tests last time for India in 2022, accused the state of bias after 2023-24 session and tried to join many other teams.

Vihari said, “From the last two sessions I was talking about going out (he was talking with Madhya Pradesh) but I stayed.” He said, ‘I felt that this was the best time to contract with an emerging team in view of the circumstances around me and my own cricket status. This year he contacted me and I felt that it would be a challenge that should be accepted.

Hanuma Vihari defeated the match draw against Australia in 2021 with an unbreakable partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin when India was in trouble after losing five wickets for 272 runs chasing a huge target of 407 runs. India managed to draw a match in Sydney and then won the series with a win in the next Test in Brisbane. Vihari scored 839 runs in 16 Tests at an average of 33.56, with 111 runs to have his best performance.
