What are fide ratings: What are Fide Rating: Vishwanathan Anand is the first Grandmaster in India to give chess a new height to its popularity in India. Today India has moved towards becoming the king of chess.

Indians have established themselves as a force in chess in the last two-three years. Indian players have come out in both ‘Open’ and ‘Women’ classes. For the first time in the history of chess, there are three Indian players in the top-10 in FIDE ratings. In FIDE ratings, there are three Indians in the top-10 in the classical format of ‘Open Category’. There are three Indians in the top-15 in the women’s category.
Rating in chess shows the strength of a player. This also shows the possibility of his performance. Ratings are a number that can go from 100 to infinite. Different rating systems have been used by different chess associations and organizations. The system used by websites like FIDE and Chess24.com is ELO rating system. It was developed by Hungarian-American Chase Master and Professor Arpad Aloe of Physics. The ELO rating system was officially adopted by the US Chase Federation in 1960 and FIDE in 1970.
The ELO rating system updates the player’s rating based on their performance after each bet. The victory increases his rating and decreases with defeat. Aloe prepared a formula that calculates the player’s latest rating which he called ‘Linier Approximation’. It explains the old and current ratings of ‘Rold’ and ‘RNEW’ players, while ‘DI’ is a rival rating. After calculating all these, some points are added or reduced to the player’s rating.
Gukesh, Pragyananda and Arjun’s trio
Indian players are constantly dominating the chess world. However, it is not yet as in hockey from 1930 to 1960s. The trio of D Gukesh, R Pragyananda and Arjun Arigasi won India in many big tournaments from Chase Olympiad last year. Despite this, Magnus Carlson is still at number one in all three formats. American Grandmasters Hikaru Nakamura and Fabiano Caruana are also in the top-3 in classical ratings. D. Gukesh, R Pragyananda and Arjun are included in Arigasi Top-10. D Gukesh is the youngest world champion in the history of chess. Who can forget the historic all-Indian final of Divya Deshmukh and Koneru Hampi in FIDE Women’s World Cup. It was won by Divya Deshmukh.
