According to a new report, it is being said that Sam Altman’s chatgpt may depend on Google in large quantities to respond. This is irony because the chatgpt of Openai is determined to convert Google into the main search engine.
This report comes from The Information, which has revealed that Chatgpt is dependent on a custom tool that brings data from Google Search. This is interesting because Google reportedly rejected Openai’s direct access to the search index, which is the treasure of web information for any AI chatbot.

According to the report, Openai is using a paid web-scrapping service Serpapi to get fresh search results from Google. In this way, it helps Chatgpt to give fresh and real -time information on topics like news, financial markets and sports, where its own AI models have not yet developed fully. These findings were confirmed by a former Google Engineer, Abhishek Iyer, who showed that Chatgpt could get information from dummy pages that were indexed by Google only.
Although Openai’s CEO Sam Altman has publicly stated that he no longer use Google Search for his search purposes, his company’s dependence on Google’s data for his products tells a different story. During Google’s anti-trust trial, Chatgpt chief Nick Turley confirmed that Openai had tried to reach Google’s search index but was refused. Tarley also reported that the search results obtained from the Bing of Microsoft had “important quality problems”, which makes the importance of Google’s data even more clear. Openai has not yet issued any public statement on this allegation.
