A few years after Audi Murphy’s birth, his father left the family and went somewhere. He studied only till 5th due to financial constraints and started selling cotton. During this time, he also learned to run a rifle. After the passing of the mother, her responsibility and trouble increased considerably. He worked in grocery shops and radio, but his dream was to become a soldier. When Germany attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, Audi Murphy began to try to join the US Army, but was not chosen due to short stature, low weight and age. He was only 5.5 feet.
