Google is setting up 1GW data center in India, how much data store will be here? This data center will be the largest in terms of its ability and investment not only in India, but Asia.

Highlights

  • Google will set up a 1GW data center in Andhra Pradesh.
  • There will be an investment of ₹ 51,000 crore in this project.
  • The data center may have a 500 million GB data store.
New Delhi. Veteran Tech Company Google (Alphabet Inc.) is going to set up a 1 GW of data center and related power infrastructure in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The project will invest $ 6 billion (about ₹ 51,000 crore). This will be the first such and biggest investment of Google in India. Reuters quoted government sources as saying that out of the total investment in this project, $ 2 billion (about ₹ 17,000 crore) will be spent only in establishing renewable energy capacity. These clean energy sources will provide electricity to this state -of -the -art data center.

This data center will be the largest in terms of its ability and investment not only in India, but Asia. This investment is part of the strategy of Google under which the company is also expanding its data center portfolio in multiple dollars in countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. It is noteworthy that in April, Alphabet announced that despite the economic uncertainties and the global tariff policies of US President Donald Trump, in 2025, about $ 75 billion (₹ 6.37 lakh crore) in 2025 will expand the global data center network.

What is the storage capacity of 1 GW Data Center?

Here 1 GW (GW) reflects the power consumption of the data center, not direct storage capacity. The data center with power consumption of 1 gigawatt is quite huge. It is usually called “hypersscale” data center, such as Google, Amazon or Microsoft server form. Thousands or millions of servers are installed in them, each of which has a large amount of data storage capacity.

Suppose one such data center has 50,000 servers and every server has an average of 10 terabytes (TB) storage. So the total storage = 50,000 × 10 tb = 500,000 TB. Now, 1 terabyte = 1,000 gigabytes (GB), then 500,000 tB = 500,000 × 1,000 = 500 million gB. That is, about 500 crore gigabytes (500 million GB) data can be stored in such data center. The design and its purpose of the data center can up or down this figure. In some cases, storage capacity can also range from 100 million GB to 1 billion GB (ie 100 crores to 1000 crore GB).
