Shubman Gill missed the triple century against England

New Delhi. In the first innings of the Birmingham Test against England, Shubman Gill played a historic innings and registered his name in the record book. Shubman Gill missed out on scoring a historic triple century after becoming the first Asian captain to score a double century in England and the first Indian batsman to score 250 runs outside Asia. On the second day of the second Test in Birmingham, Gill stood alone for India and was just 31 runs away from scoring a triple century. To dismiss him, Harry Brook of England resorted to sledging in which he also became successful.

If the new Test captain of the Indian team had done this feat, he would have become the first foreign captain to score a triple century in England in 61 years and the second captain in history. Earlier, this achievement was achieved by Bill Simpson of Australia in Old Trafford in 1964. However, due to Harry Brook’s mind game, Gill stopped achieving this big achievement.

In the second over after lunch, when Shoaib Bashir was bowling against Shubman Gill, Brook was standing in the slip. He started joking with the Indian captain and started breaking his concentration by referring to the ‘triple century’. Brook was trying to disturb Shubhanan Gill’s mind. Brook’s words in the stump mike did not know clearly, but Gill was heard twice while replying to the England star.

Former England captain Mike Atherton, who was in the commentary box, said that Brook said, “The score of 290 is the most difficult” Then asked the Indian captain, “How many triple centuries do you have?” Etharton quickly reminded that Brook scored a triple century in the Multan Test against Pakistan in 2024. On the other hand, Gill was trying to score 300 runs in his first first class cricket. His previous best score 2018/19 was 268 runs against Tamil Nadu in Mohali.

This joke of Harry Brook worked perfectly for England as Gill was dismissed on the third ball of the next over. Josh Tung threw a short ball and the tired Gill tried to play the bridge shot but gave the ball directly from the side of Oli Pope standing on the square leg.
