Another case of dangerous alliances of sports and crime has come to light in Punjab. Amritsar Dehat police arrested international kabaddi player Gurlal Singh for demanding a ransom of Rs 30 lakh from a private doctor and firing outside his house.

In this case, five companions of the accused are still absconding, three other other kabaddi players are also being told. This is the case of village Bhilowal in Lopoke police station area. According to the police, a ransom of Rs 30 lakh was sought by threatening to kill private doctor Yuvraj Nanda on the phone.
When the doctor refused to pay the money, on June 4, the accused rushed out of his house and fired. Panic has spread in the area due to this incident.
The weapon seized from the accused, which led to the firing at the doctor’s house.
Tarn Taran’s accused came out
During the investigation, the police took action on the basis of technical and human information and arrested Gurlal Singh, a resident of village Sohal in Tarn Taran district. Giving information, DSP Inderjit Singh said that 30 bore illegal pistols have also been recovered from the accused, which was used in firing.
The DSP said that Gurlal Singh is a international level kabaddi player and he is suspected to have contact with a criminal gang.
Three kabaddi players absconding
Three of the five other accused who are looking for the police have also been told kabaddi players. The identity of the absconding accused has been kept secret so that there is no obstruction in their arrest. Inderjit Singh said, “Gurlal Singh and his associates had threatened to kill the doctor to create an atmosphere of fear. We are raiding in search of the rest of the accused and will soon be arrested.”
The police have registered a case under several sections such as demanding ransom in this case, threatening to kill, and possessing illegal weapons.
