The central government is considering bringing impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Verma in the cash scandal case. News agency PTI quoted sources associated with the government as saying that Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will talk to all parties for impeachment. This proposal can be brought in the monsoon session starting after July 15. However, the government is still waiting for Justice Verma to resign himself.

Actually, Justice Verma’s house in Lutyens Delhi was on fire on the night of 14 March. Sacks filled with bundles of 500-500 rupees were found from the store room of his house. After which he was transferred to the Allahabad High Court.

On 22 March, the then CJI formed an inquiry committee in this case. The committee prepared the report on 3 May and submitted it to CJI on 4 May. The committee found the allegations against Justice Verma and convicted him.

The then CJI Sanjeev Khanna recommended impeachment After receiving the report of the committee, the then Chief Justice (CJI) of the Supreme Court, Sanjeev Khanna sent the investigation report to President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He recommended impeachment against Justice Verma.

However, this report was not made public. An official source said that the formal process of action against Verma has not started yet. Sources say that before taking action against Verma, the government will take opposition parties into confidence. It is difficult to ignore such scam.

In 2018 too, the name was associated with a scam of Rs 97.85 crore Earlier in 2018, the CBI lodged an FIR against Justice Verma in the case of disturbances in the Simbhavali sugar mill of Ghaziabad. According to NDTV report, Oriental Bank of Commerce complained of the mill disturbances. The complaint said that the sugar mill has misused a loan of Rs 97.85 crore issued for the farmers.

Justice Verma was then the non-executive director of the company. The CBI started investigation in this case. However, the investigation slowed down. In February 2024, a court ordered the CBI to resume the closed investigation, but the Supreme Court overturned the order and the CBI stopped the investigation.
