Animesh Kujur won the bronze medal by breaking the national record of the 200 meter race of Mains with a 20.32 second race at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea on Saturday. With this medal, Animesh equaled India’s 2015 achievement as the second 200 meter medal winner of India at the Asian Championship.

Japan’s Towwa Ujawa won the gold medal with a 20.12 meat record time in Gumi. Saudi Arabia’s Abdulaziz Aitafi won the bronze medal with a personal best time of 20.31. Animesh’s bronze medal was India’s 19th medal in the current competition. The country ranks second after China with eight gold, seven silver and four bronze medals.

On behalf of women, Asian Games medalist Vithya Ramraj continued his brilliant form by winning a bronze medal in the 400 meter hurdles. 26 -year -old Vithya of Tamil Nadu completed the race in a time of 56.46 seconds in the competitive race. Mo Jiady of China won the gold medal in 55.31 seconds, leaving behind the hundredth of just one second of Bahrain’s Oluvakmi Adkoya. Adkoya won a silver medal with 55.32 seconds.
